Paul LECOMTE (1842-1920) View of a park oil on canvas: 46 x 37.5 cm Paul Lecomte born April 25, 1842 in Paris and died in the same city March 21, 19201 is a French painter. He is the uncle of the landscape painter Paul Émile Lecomte (Paris, 1877-1950)2. Biography[edit | [edit code] Paul Lecomte was a student of the painter Émile Lambinet (1815-1877). He is considered one of the last representatives from the Barbizon School. His watercolors are influenced by Japonism. He paints rural scenes of Île-de-France and landscapes with a predilection for wooded ponds and for colorful Provençal seascapes, created in particular in the vicinity of Marseille, these often showing professions which have now disappeared. He signed his works “Paul Lecomte”, who should not be confused with his nephew Paul Émile Lecomte3.
